One day when trying to access a mapped drive i received an “access denied” if i tried to access the server directly using the share name it prompted for a username and password and even though the details are correct the box keeps coming back.

So i dis-joined it from the domain and attempted to rejoin it again but again got the access denied error message, after some searching it turned out to be SMB signing was turned off on the client machine, to re-enable i needed to go to the following registry keys

HKLM\system\current control set\services\lanmanserver\parameters
HKLM\system\current control set\services\lanmanworkstation\parameters

Requiresecuitysignature change to 1
Enablesecuritysignature change to 1

and after a reboot all was well again.

C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sage\accounts\2010\sage.usr

This error is due to the office installer not seeing files in the c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\bin.
I’m not sure why they weren’t their as it was a fresh install of xp pro sp3 off the dell cd, but the solution to this error is to install the Frontpage 2000 server extensions.

Go to control panel – add/remove programs – add/remove windows components highlight iis and click details, tick the Frontpage 2000 server extensions box, it also ticked a couple more boxes on my install, I suppose it depends what you are missing, and click ok.

It may need the disk so have that handy if you haven’t got the i386 folder on your hard drive.

Then try reinstalling office 2007.

I needed to run a system restore on a windows xp pc the other day but the system wouldn’t boot into to normal or safe mode so i needed to run a system restore from dos i found an article to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents xp from booting. KB307545

To restore the registry boot from the windows xp cd at start the recovery console when prompted then type the following commands.

md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
delete c:\windows\system32\config\software
delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam
delete c:\windows\system32\config\security
delete c:\windows\system32\config\default

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

then reboot and hope it starts this obviously doesn’t replace any system files like a true system restore does but hopefully it will let the system start.
